Latest deadline day transfer news from Birmingham City and West Brom as both sides ‘push’ for late deals.

Birmingham City are still ‘trying’ to add to their senior squad on transfer deadline day but no new signings have been brought in just yet, as we head into the final five hours of the window.

Blues journalist Brian Dick reports he has been told about the club’s ambition to get something done before the deadline, though “cards are being kept very close to chests” so as to not let any spoilers break into the mainstream.

Nottingham Forest defender Steve Cook had been linked with a potential transfer earlier on in the day, though that speculation has since cooled. The 31-year-old looks likelier to head to Stoke City or Luton Town.

Another name popping up this afternoon was promising Arminia Bielefeld full-back George Bello, with claims that a £1.5 million switch was in the offing, but Birmingham World understands these reports are well wide of the mark.

It remains unclear who Blues are still ‘trying’ to bring in before 11pm, but we will keep you posted with any updates that break throughout the evening.

Meanwhile, West Brom battle Wigan for Chelsea ace

In other West Midlands deadline day news, Blues’ local rivals West Bromwich Albion are reportedly keen on signing Chelsea youngster Omari Hutchinson on loan, but they have competition.

According to Nizaar Kinsella of the Evening Standard, the Baggies have put a “loan option on the table” for Hutchinson, but as have fellow Sky Bet Championship side Wigan Athletic.

Albion, pushing for promotion, would seemingly be the more attractive option, but Wigan could offer the 19-year-old better game time. Kinsella says this one “could run late”. We will keep you posted here at Birmingham World.
