Birmingham City 'join race' to sign Aberdeen target in blow to Millwall

The latest transfer news on Deadline Day as Birmingham City and Aberdeen fight for a Luton Town man on loan at Millwall.

Birmingham City are attempting to sign Luton Town midfielder Allan Campbell before tonight's transfer deadline but face competition from Aberdeen, while a major obstacle will also have to be hurdled.

Tony Mowbray has made the midfield his area of priority in the winter window, with three additions already completed. Andre Dozzell joined on loan from Queens Park Rangers, Paik Seung-ho arrived from Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, and Alex Pritchard completed a move from Sunderland.

Birmingham aren't done in the centre of the park just yet, though, as Campbell is said to be a late target. Football Insider reports Blues, Aberdeen, QPR and Rotherham United are all "in a race" to sign the Luton man, who is currently on loan at fellow Sky Bet Championship side Millwall.

A barrier stands in the way of any potential suitors, however, as the Hatters would have to recall Campbell before any move elsewhere can be completed. It awaits to be seen whether a recall clause exists. If it does, it will be simple to activate. If it doesn't, Millwall would have to agree.

Campbell, 25, has played just 12 times for the Lions in the Championship this season. He was a key player for Luton during their heroic promotion campaign, however, as he made 42 appearances, racking up 3,266 minutes. He also scored three goals and notched two assists for Rob Edwards' side.

Before moving to Luton, Campbell, who can play anywhere in midfield but predominantly in a more defensive role, was a regular for Motherwell. He played 160 times for the Steelmen, contributing 16 goals and nine assists. Campbell also has one senior Scotland cap to his name.
