The latest Championship transfer news as Birmingham City and Sunderland gain an answer from Wolves over joint target, Dion Sanderson.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly turned down a bid from Birmingham City for defender Dion Sanderson, who is also wanted by Sunderland.

The centre back spent the entirety of last season on loan with Blues and became a key figure in John Eustace’s side as they achieved their best points total since 2017.

Sanderson, who has made just one senior appearance for Wolves despite coming through their academy, is surplus to requirements at Molineux.

That hasn’t stopped a reluctance to sell on the cheap, though, as the Birmingham Mail claims Wanderers have rejected an offer from Birmingham already.

It’s reported Julen Lopetegui’s side want around £2 million for Sanderson’s services but that could lower as the two clubs are in discussions over a possible compromise.

Sunderland have been widely reported to be considering a reunion with the 23-year-old, who spent the 2020/21 campaign on loan at the Stadium of Light.

The Black Cats would have to move quickly to hijack the deal, however, as Birmingham World understands Sanderson is open to the idea of a permanent transfer to St Andrew’s.

Meanwhile, medical scheduled for Derby County ace

In other news, Blues are finally closing in on the long-term signing of another former loanee as a move for Derby County midfielder Krystian Bielik is nearing completion.

Just like Sanderson, the Poland international spent the season just gone at St Andrew’s and was a vital member of the squad. Eustace was keen on keeping Bielik and now that’s becoming a reality.

The Telegraph claims “Birmingham are set to complete the permanent signing of Bielik”, with a medical scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.

The transfer is described by the report as a good deal for all parties as Eustace “regards Bielik as a crucial signing, while Derby receive a fee and remove his big wages”.

Bielik will become the fourth signing of the summer after Tyler Roberts from Leeds United, Koji Miyoshi from Royal Antwerp, and Kevin Long on a free. Sanderson could soon be the fifth.
