Jay Stansfield is continuing with business as usual at Birmingham City despite interest re-emerging from Sunderland and Ipswich Town in recent weeks. The Fulham striker, who had 13 transfer offers in the summer but decided to choose Blues, could yet be recalled from his loan and sent elsewhere but he's committed to his current endeavour.

As it stands, Stansfield remains at Birmingham and will continue to be until the end of the current campaign – unless Fulham act very quickly. Wayne Rooney, before being sacked at the start of January, revealed the Cottagers had a "small window" to cut Stansfield's season-long stay short. The length of said window wasn't disclosed.

"We have been in touch with Fulham. As far as we're aware, he will be with us. Fulham have a window where they can pull him back. If that's what they do then it's out of our control," Rooney told the media on December 28.

Of course, the situation has now changed after Birmingham relieved Rooney of his duties and replaced him with the experienced Tony Mowbray. Blues were dropping at an alarming rate in the league standings but the ship is likely to be steadied.

Will Fulham recall Stansfield?

Stansfield wouldn't have expected two managerial switch-ups in quick succession when he arrived at St Andrew's on August 24, but it has panned out that way. One would imagine the rate of change would have harmed the 21-year-old's progress, but he's put his head down and focused on the job at hand.

Limited service has been an issue for the young forward however seven goals and two assists in 23 Championship appearances is a respectable return. Stansfield has visibly gained confidence during his few months in Birmingham and his game time has been consistent, too.

Those factors are likely to please Fulham but the dilemma remains of whether Stansfield should be sent elsewhere for an even better experience. Ipswich are fighting for automatic promotion and Sunderland are battling for the play-offs, while the highest Blues could realistically finish this season is mid-table.

It's a decision that will probably take a little more time – unless of course the "window" Rooney alluded to is already over. In that case, it's great news for Birmingham. If it isn't over, the stance is to remain calm and carry on as normal. The player, meanwhile, is happy and training as usual ahead of Saturday's game against Swansea City.
