Birmingham City have already completed five summer signings but the business isn’t over yet as there’s still a long way to go with the squad overhaul.
An exciting club takeover, led by Thomas Wagner, has brought about plenty of ambition in the transfer market as Blues look to improve after a stellar season under John Eustace.
The 53-point total was the best Birmingham have achieved since the 2016/17 campaign but the target for next term is competing for a top-half finish.
To aid this goal, Blues have already signed Tyler Roberts from Leeds United, Koji Miyoshi from Royal Antwerp, Kevin Long on a free transfer, Ethan Laird from Manchester United, and Krystian Bielik from Derby County.
Speculation is rife as several more new incomings are expected before the end of the window. With that in mind, here’s how Eustace’s side could lineup at the start of the 2023/24 season.
1. GK: John Ruddy
Was named the Players’ Player of the Year after shining during his debut season with Blues and his spot between the sticks definitely isn’t at risk.
2. RB: Ethan Laird (in from Manchester United)
Signed from United for £750,000, Laird has already been announced as a new permanent addition and is expected to take the right-back role left vacant by Maxime Colin.
3. CB: Kevin Long (in on a free transfer)
Was initially signed on as a temporary addition for the second half of last season but has now put pen to paper on a one-year deal, with the option of a further 12 months.
4. CB: Dion Sanderson (in from Wolverhampton Wanderers)
Was a huge hit at St Andrew’s on loan last term and has been heavily linked with returning on a permanent basis. It’s said a £2 million fee would be enough to get it done.
