Former Birmingham City and Derby County star makes surprise move after free agent showcase
A player that showed much promise during his time at Birmingham City has made a move to the Middle East.
Former Birmingham City loan midfielder Ravel Morrison has made a surprise move following eight months of free agency.
Morrison was a one-time loanee at St Andrew's in the 2012/13 season, making 30 appearances, the second most for any club in his career. The 31-year-old has been a free agent and this summer has been part of a boot camp that was designed to help players without contracts find new clubs.
He’s been a free agent since the start of the year after leaving MLS outfit DC United following Wayne Rooney’s departure, but now he’s found a new club, and it’s quite an interesting move. Morrison has reportedly signed for Precision FC, a club in the third tier of football in the United Arab Emirates, with Morrison pictured alongside club officials.
He looks to be following in the foot steps of several players who have made the move out to the Middle East. Precision FC already have former Aston Villa right-back Matt Lowton on their books, as well as ex-Bournemouth midfielder Harry Arter.
Morrison has already played in Mexico, Italy, Sweden, the Netherlands, and the USA, and so this is the seventh country he will have played his football in. An Instagram post from Precision FC read: “We are beyond excited to welcome the incredible Ravel Morrison to Precision FC!
“This is more than a signing – it’s a statement, a game-changer for both our club and football in the UAE. Known for his electrifying talent and skill, Ravel brings world-class experience and flair that will help our team to achieve it’s goals. This is the start of something extraordinary.
“Welcome to the family, Ravel!”
Another player that was part of the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA)'s free agent boot camp was Carl Jenkinson, who has since found a club. Right-back Jenkinson has signed with League Two outfit Bromley, having left Australian side Newcastle Jets.
Jenkinson had a short loan spell with Birmingham in the 2017/18 season, making nine appearances. He went on to play eight more times for the Gunners following his time at Birmingham, but then joined Nottingham Forest, Melbourne City, and Newcastle Jets.
"I'm really happy it's all sorted out now," Jenkinson told Bromley’s official club website.
"It's a great group of lads and it's nice to step into their environment to be honest, something I want to do is help the club from this point onwards so they can progress.
"I'll give my all to the club and the gaffer - it was a fantastic achievement for the lads to get promoted last year but the club wants to push on again now and that was a nice selling point for me."
