Aston Villa and Birmingham City's 2023/24 seasons have come to an end with a stark contrast in their outcomes.
Villa have qualified for Champions League football for the first time in the club's history after securing a fourth placed finish. Unai Emery's men finished ahead of Chelsea and Manchester United, as well as reaching the semi-finals of the UEFA Conference League.
Blues on the other hand find themselves now two divisions apart from the fiercest rivals. Four managers over the course of the season eventually took its toll with interim boss Gary Rowett in the dugout as their relegation to League One was confirmed on May 4.
Villa find themselves potentially heading to historic football grounds like the San Siro and the Santiago Bernabéu whilst Birmingham face humbling trips to Burton's Pirelli Stadium and the New Meadow at Shrewsbury Town. It just goes to how how unforgiving football can be but there’s reasons to be optimistic wherever your loyalty lies.
English football stadium's are weird and wonderful, the Premier League of course should boast the best facilities in the land but there are some grounds that are smaller than those outside of the top-flight. It will change a little now Luton Town have been relegated with the Hatters only able to host around 12,000 supporters this season.
It does make for interesting reading though when seeing which clubs boasted the best level of support over the course of the campaign. Aston Villa had an average of 41,921 supporters come through the turnstiles whilst Birmingham had 21,000 fewer with an average of 21,180.
