Norwich City v Birmingham City injury news as 11 players ruled out
Latest injury and team news ahead of the EFL Championship clash between Norwich City and Birmingham City at Carrow Road.
Both David Wagner and John Eustace have had to deal with several serious injuries in the first two months of the campaign, and will be unable to call upon several of their players.
Blues and the Canaries are both out of form with the former winless since August 26, whilst Norwich suffered a 6-2 defeat to Plymouth Argyle on their travels last weekend.
Norwich were in Carabao Cup action on Wednesday night and gave a good account of themselves in a 2-1 defeat. September’s been a bad month for them however with only one win and four defeats.
With all that in mind, here’s the latest injury and team news ahead of Norwich City vs Birmingham City in the EFL Championship:
Birmingham City team news
Blues have been dealt with several bits of bad news over the last week on the injury front.
Left-back Lee Buchanan is the latest to join the injury list after sustaining a training ground injury. He rolled his ankle in training, and is expected to be out until after the international break in mid-October.
Fellow summer signing Keshi Anderson is on the treatment table after picking up an injury against QPR. A hamstring injury is to rule him out to between six to eight weeks.
Ethan Laird, George Hall and Tyler Roberts remain sidelined with injuries meanwhile. Laird and Hall suffered hamstring injuries in August against Bristol City and Cardiff City respectively.
Tyler Roberts has a calf problem that has ruled him out for most of August, and now all of September. All three players are not close to a return with Roberts suffering a setback.
Alfie Chang is a long-term absentee after a training ground injury in August. The 21-year-old suffered a ‘significant knee injury’ and required surgery.
Out: Alfie Chang, Ethan Laird, George Hall, Keshi Anderson, Lee Buchanan and Tyler Roberts.
Norwich City team news
Josh Sargent is out until Christmas after sustaining an injury in August. He suffered serious ankle ligament damage which sidelined him for four months.
Ashley Barnes is another sidelined, after coming off injured against Leicester City. He suffered damage to his knee, which does not require surgery but he will be out until late-October.
Chilean international Marcelino Nunez is another likely to be out. Nunez suffered an ankle injury earlier this month and has not featured for the Canaries since the return to league action.
Earlier this year Grant Hanley underwent surgery for a ‘serious’ Achilles injury, and he is not yet fit. Jacob Sorensen meanwhile has a pelvic issue, which required him to see a specialist.
Out: Ashley Barnes, Grant Hanley, Jacob Sorensen, Josh Sargent and Marcelino Nunez.
