Birmingham City are eyeing an immediate promotion back to the Championship

Birmingham City were relegated from the second tier last season after finishing in the bottom three along with Rotherham United and Huddersfield Town. They subsequently turned to Chris Davies as their new manager.

Prior to joining the Blues, he held coaching roles with the likes of Leicester City, Celtic and Tottenham Hotspur. He has since adapted well to life as the number one in the Midlands and he has his sights firmly set on gaining promotion from League One.

Birmingham are currently sat top of the table above the likes of Wycombe Wanderers and Wrexham. They are carrying momentum at the moment and are finding ways to win games.

The Blues have the chance to bring in some more players between now and the end of the January transfer window. They also have the opportunity to let some individuals head out the exit door if they wish to which would help free up space and funds in their ranks to pave the way for reinforcements.

Will Birmingham City win the League One title?

Birmingham are the strongest team in the division and it has been well documented that they have spent a fair bit of money. A club of their size should be in the Championship at least.

After joining in June, Davies said: “I've been ready to be a manager for quite a few years. I've had a lot of responsibility at big clubs with the managers I've worked with. Now I'm the decision maker and the buck stops with me but I prefer that.

"It was about the right club, the right fit and the right time. I already had a great job at a great club, but my gut feeling was that this was a club which reflected my own ambition. I was over in the Maldives with the family when this all happened, but these types of opportunities are important to capture."

He added: “Number one is to be the hardest working team. You need a lot of discipline. To never have an easy day during the week, with pressure on all the time so that, when it comes to matchday, dealing with pressure becomes second nature.”

In terms of who are competing at the top with the Blues, Wycombe and Wrexham are chasing them down. The likes of Huddersfield Town, Barnsley, Stockport County, Reading, Leyton Orient, Bolton Wanderers and Charlton Athletic are then eyeing a place in the play-offs.

Who will get relegated from League One?

Cambridge United, Burton Albion, Shrewsbury Town and Crawley Town make up the bottom four and are all at risk of slipping into League Two.
