Luton Town could be without a number of important senior players for the Championship opener against Birmingham City this Saturday.

Last year’s summer signing Fred Onyedinma is unlikely to start whilst Luke Freeman and Louie Watson are both doubtful ahead of the contest.

Henri Lansbury and Amari’i Bell have both been struggling with knocks however should be good to go.

Speaking about the current issues among his squad, Luton boss Nathan Jones said:

“Fred [Onyedinma] had a little bit left over from last year. He’s played a little bit in pre-season, but then he’s picked up something which we’ve solved.”

People like Luke Freeman are just tight, so you don’t risk those, and Louie Watson has rolled his ankle.

“Henri Lansbury and Amari’i Bell have picked up little things, but they’re up to speed and fine.”

Blues have a few injury troubles of their own ahead of the opener, with John Eustace confirming that both Gary Gardner and Harlee Dean will definitely miss the game with the Hatters.

Dion Sanderson remains a doubt after picking up a bad knock in the 2-2 draw with Rayo Vallecano but fellow defender George Friend and striker Lukas Jutkiewicz hope to recover in time to play some part.
