Birmingham City face disadvantage in Bristol City and Stoke City transfer battle

Birmingham City are reportedly in competition with two Championship clubs to sign Burnley’s Luke McNally.
According to Football Insider, Blues along with the Robins and the Potters are all plotting moves. The Clarets are willing to listen to offers for the centre-back as he isn’t a part of Scott Parker’s plans.

Hide AdMcNally was on loan at Stoke last season and impressed, and are keen to reunite with him. Bristol City and Birmingham are in the race though and are readying their own offers to sign him.
The Republic of Ireland under-19 international has been with Burnley since the summer of July 2022 after joining from Oxford United. He has only made four appearances to date for them and has been out on loan with Coventry City and Stoke.
In the Championship last year, McNally played 38 games and has 59 games of Championship experience. As for his time spent with Oxford United, he played for them 30 times, and his ability to be regularly available for games could be of interest to Birmingham.
McNally though may be part of a series of transfers between Bristol City and Burnley, and that could mean Birmingham City missing out on two players. It was reported on Thursday (August 1) that Bristol City were considering an ambitious swap deal that would involve striker Tommy Conway going to Turf Moor with Luke McNally and Scott Twine going in the other direction.

Hide AdRon Walker, a journalist for Sky Sports, says that Twine is City’s top target, and are hopeful of getting him ahead of their season opener against Hull City on August 10. Bristol City’s desire to sign Twine, whilst also considering McNally could place them higher than Birmingham in the chase for McNally.
Twine is also a reported target for Birmingham City but a return to Ashton Gate now looks the most likely with Blues instead pursuing a move for Jay Stansfield. A centre-back looks to be on the agenda for Chris Davies, but Birmingham has already signed Christoph Klarer in this window.
