Lee Bowyer opens up on potential Birmingham City takeover and his future

Lee Bowyer has opened up on a potential takeover of Birmingham City and his hopes for next season.

A proposed takeover of City had left Bowyer’s future as Blues boss up in the air.

The Telegraph had reported that British businessman Laurence Bassini was granted exclusivity over a purchase of the club and is conducting due diligence over a potential £32 million deal to buy the club - with the Daily Mail claiming that West Ham United owner David Sullivan - the former owner of Birmingham who sold the club to Carson Yeung in 2009 - is funding the deal.

The Telegraph claimed that Bowyer’s position as manager at St Andrew’s was now “uncertain”, although the former Charlton boss was due for talks with the owners after the Championship season came to an end two weeks ago.

But speaking with talkSPORT, discussing his City future and the ownership, Bowyer said if there is a takeover then he hopes it “happens quickly so everybody knows where they stand”.

He said : “Wherever I am, I was the same as a player, I give everything and I am committed everyday on the training pitch, I am improving the players.

“If you speak to the players individually then they have all improved.The most important thing is we work hard day in day out and try and improve as a group and I do believe we did that and we will continue to do that.

“I have been told there are talks behind the scenes but I was at Charlton and I think there were five takeovers at one time I think.

“One minute there was a takeover then it fell through, then there was another group then it fell through, you never know until it is signed, sealed and delivered.

“That doesn’t affect me on the pitch but hopefully if there is something happening then it happens quickly so everybody knows where they stand and we can move forward as a club.”

Upcoming season

Discussing the upcoming season and his aims, Bowyer, added: “It’s always big because you are always judged. All I want this season is to have a bit of backing, a bit of support and then see if we can turn things around.

“The ownership isn’t going to change that, that’s the contract side of things with regards certain players. The most important thing for me is that I keep doing my job, keep improving players and improve the team. I want to have a team that plays good football, creates chances and excites fans and we need to bring new players in the summer that can do that.”
