Birmingham City are certainly one of the big hitters in League One after flexing their financial muscle.
Seven new players have arrived at St Andrew's in the 2024/25 summer transfer window, and all have arrived for a fee. The most recent arrival is Alex Cochrane, who has joined for more than £1m from Scottish Premiership side Hearts according to reports.
Emil Hansson was a signing who came out of the blue if you pardon the pun, and he joined for more than £1m from Dutch side Heracles Almelo. Alfie May, Ryan Allsop and Bailey Peacock-Farrell have joined but theirs fee are all under £1m by all accounts.
Chris Davies is certainly getting backed as Knighthead try and get the club back to the Championship, and then to the Premier League. Some of these signings have an abundance of experience and know the division, whilst others such as Cochrane and Hansson have a good re-sale value if they want to make a profit on them in the future.
With all the spending power that Birmingham have, there is of course that added pressure to go out and succeed. The signing of May, who was the division's top scorer last season, means that many are tipping Blues to win the title, and this week they were sold that automatic promotion should be the 'absolute minimum'.
Spending big money at this level isn't a new thing that Birmingham have introduced though, and there have been teams such as Ipswich Town, Portsmouth and Southampton who have come before them that have splashed the cash to get up. Here we take a look at the most expensive signings in the entire history of League One, according to TransferMarkt.
