What is the League One attendance record after Birmingham City v Wrexham sells out?
It's being branded the 'Hollywood Derby' in some quarters as Birmingham, owned by Tom Wagner and Tom Brady, take on Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney owned Wrexham. Brady is of course known for being arguably the greatest quarter-back in the history of the NFL, whilst Reynolds is best known for playing Marvel superhero Deadpool.

Wrexham have a documentary on Disney+ called Welcome to Wrexham, whilst Birmingham are the team in the division which has a target on their back, after spending at least £15m on Jay Stansfield, smashing the transfer record for League One.
When the fixtures came out, Sky Sports knew they had to show the fixture, and it will be interesting to see what kind of viewing figures they get. Blues will have gone nearly two weeks without a fixture because of their game against Exeter City being called off due to international call-ups, meanwhile Wrexham played Shrewsbury Town at the weekend, and Salford City on Tuesday night.
Excitement is building ahead of kick-off, and on Monday it was confirmed by Birmingham City that the fixture was sold out. No tickets are left in the home end, and Wrexham have sold out their allocation of 2,227 tickets. According to the official club website, the capacity of St Andrew's is 29,409, and so just under 30,000 will be in attendance on Monday.

Hide AdAs Birmingham and Wrexham prepare for what is a huge game already in the footballing calendar, it does beg the question as to what the most attended game is in League One? Both the home and away ends have sold out, so let’s take a look.
Unfortunately for Birmingham, they won't come close to the record Sunderland and Bradford City set on Boxing Day in 2018. The Stadium of Light had 46,039 there as the Black Cats ran out 1-0 winners.
Another Sunderland match had 44,742 in attendance when they played Sheffield Wednesday in May 2022. Before Sunderland had the record, the highest attended match in League One was when Leeds United won promotion against Gillingham in 2008 with 38,256 at Elland Road.

Sheffield United went over the 30,000 barrier when they played Chesterfield in April 2017. Wolves in their final game of the season had 30,110 watch on as they lifted the trophy at the end of the game.
Birmingham's attendance against Wrexham however should defeat the highest crowds from the 2017/18 season when Blackburn Rovers had 27,600 against Oxford United, and the 2014/15 season when Coventry City hosted Gillingham.
Whilst the League One attendance record may allude them, they might smash a Championship record depending on what league they are in five years time. The ambitious owners will be hoping to be out of the third tier, and maybe even in the Premier League when their new stadium is built at the former Birmingham Wheels site.

Hide AdTom Wagner hopes that Knighthead's plans for a 60,000 seater stadium can be completed by 2029, however he did admit that was 'ambitious'. If the stadium does get built to that size then it would become the largest in the Midlands, eclipsing 42,000 currently allowed at Villa Park.
