Former Birmingham City star Jude Bellingham continues to dominate transfer headlines despite being busy at the World Cup.

Bellingham is currently competing with England at the World Cup in Qatar, and he is building on his eye-catching performances for Borussia Dortmund at club level. It’s remarkable to think the midfielder is still only 19 years of age, though that’s something Dortmund are not forgetting.

Dortmund paid a reported £25million plus add-ons to land Bellingham from Blues in 2020, and since then, the youngster’s value has skyrocketed. Bellingham is now being linked with a move ahead of next summer, with the Bundesliga giants all-but ruling out any chance of selling their England star in the January window.

Dortmund sold Erling Haaland last summer, and they don’t need to sell for any fee this winter. Losing Bellingham would be a huge disruption to their season, and that’s something they will move to avoid. But amid increasing interest, they know they are likely to be pushed to sell come next summer.

Though, given the level of interest, they are in a position to dictate a transfer fee, and according to the most recent report, they are going to command around £130million. That fee rules out a lot of clubs, potentially including Manchester United, while there is a fierce race developing between Liverpool and La Liga champions Real Madrid.

Transfer expert Florian Plettenberg has said: “Bellingham: Been told that #MUFC hardly has a chance anymore. Triple fight: Liverpool, City, Real! #LFC & Klopp pushing! But not at any price due to FFP. Price: Up to €150m! JB is LFCs top target for central midfield - next to 2 players from South America.”

An interesting development, though it’s clear this is a situation that could change rapidly between now and next summer, and Bellingham’s performances for England at the World Cup could only increase interest among some of Europe’s top clubs. However it goes, it’s pretty clear the boy from Stourbridge is headed for the very top, and City won’t be forgetting their sell-on clause amid all this transfer noise.
