Birmingham City takeover hopeful Paul Richardson has failed to rule out another push for buying the club in the future, as long as the opportunity comes at the right time. The businessman and former Blues non-executive director opened up to talkSPORT after a failed takeover throughout the summer and autumn.

Richardson and his Maxco colleague Maxi Lopez pulled the plug on a potential deal last week after they failed to reach an agreement with Blues’ current owners Birmingham Sports Holdings. “Following several months of due diligence at BCFC, Maxco has decided not to proceed with the purchase of the shareholding and stadium of BCFC at this time,” a statement from Richardson read.

“In light of the due diligence we attempted to renegotiate the terms of the original agreements to reflect our understanding of the current business status, but could not argue revised terms with the current owners. We have been left with no alternative and are bitterly disappointed.

“We know what this club means to the community and the very loyal fanbase. We really hope that BCFC finds an owner who is as passionate about the club as we are. Keep right on,” Richardson said on Instagram, tagging his Maxco counterpart, Lopez.

The Blues fanbase was unsurprisingly distraught by the news last week and there was quite a backlash toward the Maxco duo. Now, four days after first announcing the decision, Richardson has broken his silence on how he is feeling in the aftermath, and in doing so he hinted at another potential shot in the future.

“The club’s in my heart and I’m completely gutted we couldn’t do it, but we got so far,” Richardson told talkSPORT. “Look, I’m not a guy to give up. If the right opportunity comes up, we’d still be around. We just couldn’t go any further with the current agreement we’ve got. We couldn’t meander on.

“You either agree on something or you don’t and we couldn’t agree on what we had in front of us. I love the club, the fans, and the people who work there. They are as loyal as anyone I’ve ever known. If we can do anything in any way or with anyone, we’ll do what we can. We put our heart and soul into this over the last few months.”

As it stands, there are no further reported approaches to Birmingham Sports Holdings for a takeover either from the Maxco pair or any other parties. Birmingham World will report any further takeover news as and when it comes.
