Birmingham City's relegation rivals Plymouth Argyle have made the decision to sack their manager as they bid to avoid relegation from the Championship.

The Pilgrims follow in the footsteps of Blues and Sunderland to have made three managerial changes this season. Plymouth suffered a 1-0 defeat to Bristol City on Easter Monday and that prompted their hierarchy in to bringing an end Foster's short reign.

Explaining the decision to the official club website, chairman Simon Hallett said: “Ian was hired through a thorough and extensive recruitment process and his coaching credentials really stood out when making the appointment.

“But we have to balance long-term stability against short-term decisions, and we have given Ian as long as possible to see if results could improve.

“Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case, and we feel now is the right time to make a change to give us the best chance of securing survival.

“The Green Army have been incredible in recent weeks, as ever, and we need you all now to continue that support as we embark on the final weeks of the campaign with Neil and Nance in charge.

“Together we can achieve what we set out to achieve at the start of the season.”

Neil Dewsnip will take charge of first-team affairs for the remainder of the season. The Director of Football was in the role when the club were looking for a successor to Steven Schumacher.

Birmingham won 1-0 against Preston North End in Gary Rowett's first home match back in charge and that slightly relieved the pressure. They are two points off of the relegation zone with Huddersfield drawing 1-1 with Stoke City.

Millwall have been dragged back in to the fight having lost to basement side Rotherham United, who won for the first time since Boxing Day. Sheffield Wednesday, second from bottom, lost 2-0 to Middlesbrough.
