Is Birmingham City vs Peterborough United being shown on TV?

It’s nearly time for the game every Birmingham City and Peterborough United fan has been waiting for as the two teams head to the capital this Sunday to compete in the Vertu Trophy final at Wembley.

Blues ran out 2-1 victors in the League One meeting between the two teams on Tuesday - a result enough to mathematically secure promotion back to the Championship - but a meeting under the arch is a different kettle of finish. Peterborough are the reigning champions of this competition, too, as they beat Wycombe Wanderers 2-1 in the final last season and have the necessary experience to try and retain their crown.

Birmingham will be joined by an astounding total of 43,356 supporters at Wembley after selling out their full, extended allocation in style. To put into perspective how impressive that is, the total attendance for both teams at last year’s final was smaller than Blues’ expected tally this year.

It’s set to be a monumental atmosphere on April 13 as Blues seek their first silverware since the 2011 League Cup triumph over Arsenal, also at Wembley. The Vertu Trophy might not be anywhere the same calibre of competition as the League Cup but it’s a piece of silverware nonetheless – and one Davies’ men have been working extremely hard towards adding to the cabinet.

Blues have played seven matches to reach the final of the competition, winning six and drawing one, losing on penalties against Walsall in the group stage. The semi-final, against Bradford City at St Andrew’s, was particularly hard-fought as Lyndon Dykes’ 88th-minute header sealed victory at the death after Bobby Pointon’s controversial equaliser.

Bluenoses will significantly outnumber Peterborough fans at Wembley as the Posh were only allocated 25,190 tickets and are yet to sell out. Birmingham supporters who were unable to secure a seat and are thinking about possibly sitting in the Peterborough end will be disappointed as a purchase history is required.
