Birmingham City have a clearer path to sign a player that would be an unreal signing at this level.

Birmingham City have a clearer path of signing Harrison Burrows after a club pulled out of the race to sign the Peterborough United star.

Earlier this month, it was suggested that Blues were the League One club keen on signing last season's Player of the Year. Burrows has received interest from the Championship, and there have been some offers which have been knocked back by the Posh.

Preston North End were one of the teams that had a bid turned down, and it doesn't look like they will be coming in with another offer. The Lilywhites have turned their attention to other targets after being priced out of a move for the left-back.

“We have a valuation and we have money that we can only spend,” said Lowe to the Lancashire Evening Post.

“We stick to that, which I have done during all my time here. He is a good player, but there are many players out there who are just as good.

“The speculation, we are going to be speculated with loads of players, aren’t we? I am sure you’ve got loads that you’d like to ask me about.

"He is a good player, but fair play to Peter (Ridsdale) and Craig (Hemmings). They put a bid in, it wasn’t accepted and we move on to the next one."

According to the Peterborough Telegraph, a deal is already in place with Sheffield United with personal terms agreed. The Blades will only sign Burrows once their takeover goes through and that could take a few weeks. A medical has already been done, and the player has agreed on terms with the Yorkshire club, and so Birmingham would really have to show their hand to Peterborough to sign him.

Peterborough might also be reluctant to sell to a league rival. Owner Darragh MacAnthony believes Burrows is 'ready' for the Championship, having had a stellar year for Peterborough last term.

In the 2023/24 season, Burrows got 18 assists and 12 goals in 58 games across four competitions. Burrows was involved in 21 of their goals in League One, and also got an assist in the play-offs.
