Former Birmingham City men tipped to be next Rotherham United manager after Matt Taylor sacked

Rotherham United head coach Matt Taylor was sacked earlier this morning - as such, the Millers are now in the hunt to find his replacement.

There are several high-profile names who are believed to be in the running - among them are former Birmingham City head coaches, including the recently sacked John Eustace.

Rotherham are currently 22nd in the Championship and four points from safety. Despite picking up some impressive results this season, including a dogged 2-2 draw against Ipswich Town, their 5-0 massacre against Watford was enough for the Millers' board to relieve Taylor of his position.

Taylor joined Rotherham in October 2022 - despite securing their Championship status last season, he led them to just ten wins over the course of 55 games. Previously, the former Charlton Athletic and Cheltenham Town defender managed Exeter City from 2018 to 2022.

Who are the favourites for the vacant Rotherham job?

Currently, the leading name for the Rotherham job is former Sheffield United head coach Chris Wilder - he achieved great success with the Blades and Northampton Town, but he has yet to replicate this success elsewhere.

Just behind Wilder is Gary Rowett, who was sacked by Millwall earlier in the campaign. He is best known for his long-ball tactical philosophy - something that Rotherham themselves have become associated with. As such, this seems like a strong fit for both parties.

As mentioned earlier, Rotherham are also linked with former Blues boss John Eustace. Some audiences believed that Eustace's dismissal at Birmingham was unfair and premature, as he led them to sixth place in the league table - could Eustace show the Blues what they are missing by taking over at the New York Stadium?

Garry Monk, who managed Birmingham from 2018 to 2019, is also thought to be in the running. However, he has not been in management since 2020, when he was sacked by Sheffield Wednesday - bringing him on board would not be without its risks.
