Former Huddersfield Town and Brighton midfielder Aaron Mooy looks set to complete a permanent transfer to Scottish Premier League champions Celtic.

That’s according to the Daily Telegraph reporter Mike McGrath who states that talks between the 31-year-old and fellow countryman Ange Postecoglou have progressed well with a deal expected to be struck in the coming days.

The Australian joined Huddersfield on loan from Man City in 2016 and was another key cog in their promotion success. He signed for the club permanently in 2017. He moved to Brighton following Town's relegation in 2019 before in August 2020 it was announced he had signed for Chinese Super League team Shanghai SIPG.The Australian joined Huddersfield on loan from Man City in 2016 and was another key cog in their promotion success. A number of Championship clubs were reportedly interested in bringing Mooy back to England including Birmingham City but none could compete with what has been described as a ‘dream move’ for the Australian international.

Fellow high-profile journalist Fabrizio Romano claims that the contract with the Hoops will run until the summer of 2023 with the SPL side having the option to extend it for a year further should they wish.

With Mooy opting for a move to Scotland over the Championship, this leaves Blues in the market for a midfielder this summer.

Young duo Jordan James and Jobe Bellingham have both recently signed deals committing their futures to Birmingham whilst George Hall continues to impress in pre-season.

In terms of experienced pros in that area, though, Blues remain short and will now have to look elsewhere to address the situation before the window closes on September 1.
