Easter Monday brought out the very best and worst of teams and players in the Sky Bet Championship, with plenty of competitive action seen up and down the country. Six of the 12 matches played ended in draws, whereas the highest winning margin was by just two goals, making for an exciting end to the Easter period.
West Midlands sides Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion were held to frustrating draws, with Blues in a 0-0 snoozefest with Stoke City and The Baggies pegged back for a 2-2 sharing of points against Queens Park Rangers. Meanwhile, Norwich City and Rotherham’s meeting ended 0-0 and Middlesbrough came from behind to draw 2-2 at Bristol City.
Huddersfield Town earned yet another point in their relegation battle in a 2-2 thriller against Blackburn Rovers, whereas Coventry City and Watford’s clash ended with the same scoreline. Luton Town managed an important 3-1 victory when they took on Blackpool, while another team in orange - Hull City - narrowly beat Millwall by one goal to nil.
Preston North End moved to within goal difference of the play-off spots with a crucial 2-1 victory on home soil against Reading but Sunderland also moved closer, beating Cardiff City 1-0 in South Wales. Fellow Welsh side Swansea City enjoyed victory as Wigan Athletic were dispatched by two goals to nil.
The action was then rounded off by a top-two clash between Burnley and Sheffield United under the lights at Turf Moor. The Championship leaders had an early advantage when Blades goalkeeper Wes Foderingham was sent off and they were able to capitalise, winning 2-0 courtesy of a brace from substitute Jóhann Guðmundsson.
So many players impressed on Monday that it would be difficult to select just 11 to form a team of the week but, rather thankfully, WhoScored’s rating system makes things a lot easier. With that in mind, here are the best-performing stars based on WhoScored ratings. See below.
