Championship team of the season revealed as Birmingham City, Hull, Cardiff and Norwich stars included

The 2023/24 Championship season has drawn to a close and now the Team of the Season can be revealed.

Birmingham City's rollercoaster 2023/24 season ended on Saturday (May 4) with them being relegated from the Sky Bet Championship.

A 1-0 win over Norwich City at St Andrew's wasn't enough as all the other results went against them. Sheffield Wednesday beat Sunderland, Blackburn Rovers were victorious at Leicester City and Plymouth Argyle claimed a narrow win over Hull City.

Blues fans in October were looking up rather than down when they beat West Brom to go in to the second international break of the season in the play-offs. The shock sacking of John Eustace and the appointment of Wayne Rooney though was the start of their downfall.

Despite a season that has seen them finish in the bottom three, one of their players has been regarded as one of the best players in the division based on his performances. The official Team of the Season was revealed at the EFL awards which were held in mid-April in London, but that was before anything was decided.

The EFL's team had three Leeds United players and just two from Leicester City who won the league whilst Ipswich Town who finished in second had representation through Leif Davies. Hull City, Blackburn Rovers, Norwich and Plymouth Argyle all featured in the official side. With the regular season now concluded, we can take a look at which players are in the Team of the Season based on their average performances.

WhoScored are the official partners of the EFL when it comes to statistics and they help them with weekly and monthly awards. They’ve put together a Team of the Season in a 4-4-2 formation based on the players who had the best ratings with them from the start of the season until the end. It’s quite interesting how it stacks up against what the EFL had and will raise a few eyebrows. Here’s the Team of the Season based from WhoScored, which includes a Blue.
