Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers will both face Premier League opposition in the third round of the League Cup following Wednesday evening’s draw.

Villa, who beat Bolton Wanderers 4-1 in the second round away from home, will travel to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United in the next stage of the competition.

Unlike Steven Gerrard’s side, United entered the League Cup in the third round due to finishing in a European place in the league last season.

As for Wolves, they will welcome Leeds United to Molineux in the third round of the competition. Bruno Lage’s men have already faced the Whites this campaign, losing 2-1 on the opening day of the Premier League at Elland Road.

When will Villa and Wolves’ third round games take place?

The third round of the League Cup will take place the week commencing November 7, just one week before the 2022-23 season will pause for the World Cup in Qatar.

Following the conclusion of the second round on Wednesday, 25 clubs reached the next stage of the competition, while the seven Premier League teams who finished in a European place last campaign entered the third round.
