Birmingham City needed favours from elsewhere in the Championship after being held 0-0 by the division’s rock-bottom side.

For large spells at the New York Stadium, the hosts played the Blues off the park without ever truly testing John Ruddy’s goal. Birmingham failed to capitalise on last weekend’s win against Coventry City with another laboured performance in Yorkshire.

Three points today would have put the Blues on the brink of survival. Instead, the pressure on next week’s trip to Huddersfield Town cranked up a notch following a drab 0-0 draw.

Thankfully for Gary Rowett’s side, the Terriers were battered on home soil 4-0 by Swansea City to keep Birmingham above the drop zone. They could yet end up in the bottom three should Sheffield Wednesday win away at Blackburn Rovers tomorrow.
