Birmingham City's final standing in League One forecast as Wrexham drop precious points
Birmingham City are back in League One action this weekend
Birmingham City are eyeing an immediate promotion to the Championship. It has been well documented that they have been backed heavily in the transfer market over recent times.
They turned to Chris Davies as their manager last summer. Prior to his move to his current club, he worked as the number two at Tottenham Hotspur.
The Blues were relegated from the second tier last year and have adapted well to life in League One. They finished in the bottom three along with Huddersfield Town and Rotherham United.
Birmingham City latest
Birmingham are top of the league and saw rivals Wrexham lose 2-1 at home to Leyton Orient in the league. Meanwhile, 2nd place Wycombe Wanderers won 2-0 against Bristol Rovers.
The Blues were in Vertu Trophy semi-final action against Bradford City and won 2-1 to book their place at Wembley. Striker Lydon Dykes got their winner late on.
However, they are sweating over an injury sustained by key man Jay Stansfield. He went off against the Bantams and will now need to be checked on.
Speaking afterwards, Davies said: “It feels amazing. I’m just so happy for everyone, and so proud of the players, the staff, they deserve it so much. The fans deserve it, and the club deserves it.
“The club has suffered for too long and the chance to go back to Wembley and have that day is something really special. You only have to go back 30 years to when we were there last time and see the scenes at the end and what it meant.
“That tells you everything and here we are 30 years later trying to do it again. Regardless of the competition it’s the seventh time the club has got to Wembley in its history, so you have to cherish it.”
