Highly controversial Birmingham City-Wrexham request rejected by EFL

A sensational attempt to move Birmingham City’s upcoming Sky Bet League One fixture against Wrexham to the United States has failed, a report from Mail Sport claims.
Blues are said to have made an official application to the EFL for their home clash with Wrexham to be played across the Atlantic – but the motion was “swiftly denied” by higher-ups.

Hide AdAs Birmingham are predominantly owned by American businessman Tom Wagner and NFL legend Tom Brady, it was figured that facing Wrexham, chaired by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney would make sense for both teams. But, rather unsurprisingly, the prospect was not taken well by the EFL.
Had the controversial request been accepted, it would’ve been a historical first as a competitive English fixture has never been played outside of England or Wales. Very little attention was even given to Blues’ motion, leaving Wagner and co severely disappointed.
Birmingham’s American owners have made several well-received decisions to improve the matchday experience for supporters - including several expensive stadium improvements - but this is likely to cause some outrage.
It awaits to be seen how involved - if at all - Reynolds and McElhenney were in the attempt to move the fixture. The pair, both A-listers in Hollywood, have guided Wrexham to two promotions and aim to continue that progress in League One.
