Birmingham City can sign some new players when the next transfer window opens for business

Birmingham City stormed their way to the League One title this past season. The Blues won the league at the first time of asking. They went up in the top two along with Wrexham and smashed the points tally record.

Chris Davies was appointed as their manager last summer after their relegation from the Championship. They slipped out of the second tier along with Huddersfield Town and Rotherham United. However, they are back now and have a big few months ahead on the recruitment front.

Update emerges regarding Birmingham City target Kwame Poku at Peterborough United

According to Football Insider, Peterborough United are in talks with Braintree Town attacker Kyrell Lisbie. The Posh could see the non-league ace as a potential replacement for Kwame Poku, who is being linked with Birmingham. The latter is out of contract at the end of the season and is due to become a free agent as things stand.

Darren Ferguson’s side face a real battle to keep hold of Poku, 23, amid attention from elsewhere. He made the switch to London Road back in 2021 and has since become a key player. The winger has also been on the books at Cray Wanderers, Worthing and Colchester United in the past.

Lisbie, 21, may be seen by Peterborough now as someone who can step into Poku’s shoes and make a similar impact. The former Watford and West Ham man is being tipped for a bright future in the game. He has scored 13 goals in 44 matches for National League team Braintree in this campaign and appears destined to make the step up into the Football League now.

Latest regarding Birmingham City target Kwame Poku

It seems likely that Poku has played his last match for Peterborough. Birmingham could see him as someone to boost their attacking department. He has a big decision to make over where he wants to go next and he will be weighing up his options.

Peterborough chairman Barry Fry told the Peterborough Telegraph recently: “A Championship club tried to force a deal through for Kwame in January, but he was injured at the time and they didn’t offer anything like what we wanted. They were just trying to get ahead of the game as they knew there would be many more clubs after him in the summer. He is the best player in League One after all. Celtic and Rangers have been at most of our games this season, but I don’t believe Kwame will go to Scotland. He will more likely sign for a top end Championship club.”

Poku is a player with a lot of potential and will only get better down the line. Birmingham have a lot of financial power now so it wouldn’t be a surprise if they won the race for his signature. They will want to inject some more firepower into their ranks.
