Birmingham City return under the lights at St Andrew’s on Friday evening as they play host to Hull City in the Sky Bet Championship. The final outing before the sun sets on 2022, John Eustace and his men will be hoping to round off the year on a high.

It was a drop down to 15th in the league standings after suffering defeat away at league leaders Burnley on Tuesday, but the gap between Blues and the top six is still just four points. With the table as tight as it is, a rise into the top half would be achievable with a win over Hull – dependent on other results of course.

The Tigers have experienced many a stalemate of late, drawing their last three games even despite facing 10 men in two of those fixtures. Liam Rosenior’s side battled back against Blackpool on Boxing Day, as star man Oscar Estupinan bagged an equaliser to salvage a point late on.

Since returning to competitive play following the World Cup break, Hull have really struggled to be clinical enough with just six shots on target from 41 attempts. With that many efforts, many would expect a far better return than just two goals. The Tigers have also conceded the second-most out of any side this term.

What is the injury news ahead of Birmingham City vs Hull City?

On the injury news front, Birmingham top scorer Scott Hogan remains a doubt though Eustace is hopeful the Irishman will have an involvement. “He has had a virus which was going round the camp a little bit. Hopefully he will be close for Hull, we will have to wait and see,” Eustace told Birmingham Live post-Burnley.

Gary Gardner has been back in training for a while now and it would be no surprise if he were among the substitutes on Friday. Talented midfielder George Hall was ruled out of the Burnley trip and he is expected to miss Hull, too. Przemysław Płacheta is still sidelined, whereas George Friend is in contention.

Hull boss Rosenior labeled club captain Lewie Coyle ‘touch and go’ ahead of the clash after he picked up a knock to his foot against Blackpool. Meanwhile, forward man Allahyar Sayyadmanesh is still doubtful but it is hoped he will be in the matchday squad. Other than that, there are no fresh Hull injury concerns.

Doubts: Hogan, Gardner, Friend (BIRM).

Ruled out: Hall, Placheta (BIRM); Coyle, Sayyadmanesh (HULL).
