Birmingham City trialist Leandro Bacuna is reportedly wanted by Panathinaikos.

The Blues are taking a look at the free agent midfielder following his departure from fellow Championship club Cardiff City at the end of last season.

Bacuna, 31, has a decision to make on his next move and has been weighing up his options.

According to reporter Alan Nixon on Twitter, Greek giants Panathinaikos are ‘keen’ on him at the moment as he continues to train with John Eustace’s side (see tweet below):

Potential Birmingham City addition?

Birmingham could see Bacuna as someone to add more competition and depth into their midfield departure but may need to decide whether to offer him a deal soon with another suitor potentially lurking now.

He is an experienced player in the Football League and has racked up over 400 appearances in his career to date.

The Curaçao international moved to England back in 2013 to join Aston Villa and spent four years at Villa Park before embarking on spells at Reading and Cardiff City.

Bacuna was released by the latter when his contract expired at the end of June.

Panathinaikos are the latest team to be linked with him and they finished 4th in the Super League last term. Former Bristol City defender Hörður Björgvin Magnússon plays for them these days, as does ex-Everton attacker Bernard.

The winger completed a permanent switch to St Andrew’s in the last window and has said, as per a report by Birmingham Live:

Of course it’s one of the biggest clubs in the world but eventually you have to look at yourself as well in terms of your career, what you want to achieve. For me I got to the stage I am at an age where I want to play games.

For me anyway it was a logical decision if I am not going to get game time here I need to get game time somewhere else. In terms of my career, you have goals and stuff you want to achieve and to do that you have to play games.”
