Bold '£30m' future claim made over Birmingham City transfer target as Blues close in on first summer signing

Birmingham City stormed to the League One title this season. They have been joined in the top two by Wrexham recently. Stockport County, Wycombe Wanderers, Charlton Athletic and Leyton Orient will now all battle it out in the play-offs, with Reading missing out.
The Blues have an important summer ahead of them now as they gear up for life back in the Championship. They have the chance to bring in some new signings when the transfer window opens for business. The Midlands outfit also have the opportunity to let some players head out the exit door.

Birmingham City target Kwame Poku has been tipped to cost £30 million in the future by Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony. The Blues are reportedly keen on landing him. His contract with the Posh expires next month.
MacAnthony has said on the ‘Hard Truth’ podcast: “There are many things a tribunal takes into account when setting a transfer fee. The offers we have already had are part of that as are his appearances, his goals, the contract offer we have made him and what we have paid in transfer fees ourselves, so we will still get millions and millions for him.”
He added: “We spent £250,000 on him initially, plus half a million in add-ons since then. We did make him a club record offer, but he knows it’s time for him to go to the next level. Kwame probably won’t go to the Premier League straight away but he will get a high-end Championship club. He will be a Premier League star in the future and that next move will probably cost £30 million.
“It will have been a pleasure to have had him for four years but he will leave with our best wishes," MacAnthony exclaimed. Fans should stop worrying about players leaving for betting things as it’s the law of the jungle, the nature of the beast and new heroes will come in.”

Birmingham could see Poku as someone to boost their attacking ranks. At the age of 23, he would be a useful long-term option. He joined Peterborough back in 2021 and has since become one of their most prized assets.
The winger would give the Blues more competition and depth on the wing if they were able to get him. He started his career with spells in non-league at Cray Wanderers and Worthing. The Londoner then made the step up to the Football League in 2019 when Colchester United came calling.
Davies will want to bring in some more quality over the coming months to ensure his team are prepared for the step up a division. His side have a lot of financial backing and will have money to spend. They need to ensure that they get their recruitment right and that they acquire the right type of characters as they aim to eventually reach the Premier League one day.
