Prospective Birmingham City owner Tom Wagner watched Blues play Seffield United live and in person for the first time at St Andrew’s on Bank Holiday Monday.

The club announced that an agreement has been reached for the sale of 45.64% of the club, as well as the entirety of St Andrew’s Stadium, on the same day.

The club’s prospective buyers are the Shelby Companies, which is managed by Tom Wagner. Shelby Companies is an affiliate of Knighthead Capital Management, LLC (Knighthead).

Hedge Fund manager, Tom, watched the team’s final game of the season at home, and then went on to celebrate the agreement in Birmingham city centre.

He visited a restaurant frequented by many celebrities over the years including Tom Cruise, Ed Sheeran and Lee Child, the author of Jack Reacher books.

Chefs from the restaurant also fed King Charles at an outdoor event during his visit to Birmingham for the Commonwealth Games when he was still Prince Charles - although he didn’t enter the restaurant, he was invited back for another time.

Asha’s in Birmingham posted on social media about Tom Wagner and his guests’ visit on May 8. Wagner visited the restaurant with his Knighthead partners and Blues technical director Craig Gardner.

Asha’s wrote: “You have to end your first proper night in Birmingham with a curry. It was a pleasure to welcome incoming Birmingham City owner Tom Wagner and his guests to Asha’s yesterday evening.”

Knighthead Co-Founder and Co-CEO Wagner said in a statement that they would be drawing on Birmingham’s unique history and creative dynamism for an “unmatched” fan experience.

The American financier, who said that he is passionate about sports, will also ensure that the club is a positive force in the local community.

He said: “We understand the Club’s pivotal role for the city, economically, socially and culturally. We plan to be a cornerstone; a positive force in the local community where we operate.”
