Breaking: Birmingham City demolish League One transfer record to secure Jay Stansfield

Stansfield has officially complete a romantic return to Birmingham in the final hours of deadline day after a full agreement was reached with Fulham earlier this evening.
The Telegraph reports the Cottagers finally sanctioned the sale of Stansfield after receiving a remarkable bid of £15 million from Birmingham that could reach £20 million after add-ons. Talks had been ongoing throughout the day and a full agreement has now been sealed, with a 20 per cent sell-on clause included.

This news comes after months of speculation that started as soon as the striker’s season-long loan at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park came to a close.
Stansfield claimed all of the individual accolades at the club’s end of 2023/24 season awards following 13 goals in 47 appearances across all competitions. The 21-year-old has been the dream target for head coach Chris Davies and owners Knighthead all summer long.
Birmingham broke the previous League One transfer record - Will Grigg’s £4 million move to Sunderland in 2019 - twice earlier this window. Willum Willlumsson and Christoph Klarer were both signed by Blues for higher fees, but the Stansfield deal will be worth more than those two players combined.
It’s an absolutely unthinkable deal in the English third tier and one that will surely never be repeated again.
