Birmingham City are moving quick with their January business and now look set to bring in Brighton midfielder Taylor Richards on loan, that’s according to talksport presenter Alex Crook.

Richards would be the second signing in as many days for Lee Bowyer following the arrival of Teden Mengi from Manchester United on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old, who spent the entirety of last season on loan at League One side Doncaster Rovers has become a regular face on the bench of the Seagulls this year and could prove a smart bit of business for the Blues.

His arrival would be a like-for-like replacement for the recently departed Riley McGree who had become a favourite among bluenoses.

Richards signed a new three-year-deal with Brighton back in August 2021, so similar to McGree a permanent move is highly unlikely at this point.

At the time of his contract renewal, Albion manager Graham Potter said: “Taylor has impressed during pre-season, and he was deservedly part of the first-team squad at Burnley last weekend.

“He had a very productive loan spell at Doncaster last season, and this new contract is a reward for his hard work and progress he’s made since he arrived.”
