Birmingham City are set to complete the signing of Bordeaux striker Josh Maja on a five-year deal.

The 23-year-old who previously played for Sunderland before having loan spells with both Fulham and Stoke City, is due in England tonight to complete a medical first thing tomorrow.

As first reported by Fabrizio Romano, Blues have made their move for Maja as they look to improve their lacklustre forward ranks.

Romano said via his Twitter: “Birmingham City are set to complete an important signing: official bid now submitted for Josh Maja, talent from Bordeaux with five year deal agreed. #BCFC Maja will fly to England tonight in order to complete medical tests as first thing in the morning.”

The former Sunderland man made 58 appearances for French side Bordeaux since his move there in 2019, scoring 13 times and providing six assists.

He spent the second-half of last season with Blues’ Championship rivals Stoke City where he failed to find any real form. He made 17 appearances for the Potters, scoring twice and providing three assists.

Chesterfield striker Kabongo Tshimanga had been linked with a move to Birmingham as late as Wednesday morning but a move for Maja should all but quash that rumour.
