Birmingham City are preparing for life in the Championship. The Blues stormed to the League One title last season and smashed the record points tally in the process. Chris Davies’ side went up along with Wrexham and Charlton Athletic.
The Midlands outfit are now in the hunt for some new signings. They have the chance to bring in some fresh faces this summer. In the meantime, whilst they gear up for next term, here is a look back at the players they signed back in 2015/16 and where they are now...

Birmingham delved into the market to re-sign Adam Legzdins to boost their goalkeeping department. He had previously risen up through their academy ranks as a youngster. The stopper is now available as a free agent after cutting ties with Dundee at the end of the last campaign.
Tomasz Kuszczak arrived from Wolves and he worked in the coaching set-up with Poland up until last year. He played over 300 games before hanging up his gloves. The ex-Manchester United player won the Champions League in 2008.
The Blues snapped up defender Shane Lowry to bolster their options at the back. Prior to his transfer, he caught the eye at Leyton Orient in League One. The 36-year-old now plays in Malaysia following a spell at Johor Darul Ta'zim.
Lowry, who was born in Australia, moved down under after his stint at St Andrews. He then had three years in the A-League and played 73 matches in all competitions, chipping in with four goals from the back. The Perth-born man then moved to Qatar for a couple of years with Al Ahli.

Birmingham signed Maikel Kieftenbeld in the summer of 2015. He was an important player in the middle of the park. He went on to play 184 matches altogether and found the net on five occasions.
The Dutchman still plays at the moment at the age of 35. He is on the books at SC Cambuur in the Dutch second tier. The former Go Ahead Eagles and FC Groningen man had a stint at Millwall after leaving St Andrew’s before heading back to his homeland.
Jacques Maghoma was acquired from fellow second tier outfit Sheffield Wednesday. Prior to his move, he spent two years at Hillsborough. The winger played 180 matches altogether for the Blues and scored 21 goals before leaving in 2020. He then played for East Bengal in India and Hemel Hempstead Town in non-league before hanging up his boots. His brothers Christian and Paris play for Aldershot Town and Brentford respectively.
Birmingham City’s attacking acquisitions
Birmingham landed Nicolai Brock-Madsen as a promising striker from Randers. He caught their eye in Scandinavia before they pounced. However, his time in England didn’t quite go to plan.

The Blues also swooped for Diego Fabbrini in an attempt to inject more quality to their ranks in January 2016. Like Brock-Madsen, he didn’t make the impact he would have wanted to. The ex-Watford man didn’t find the net at all in 23 matches and he is now back in Italy playing in Serie D (fourth tier) for Sambenedettese.
Alex Jones also joined from rivals West Brom after rising up through the Baggies’ academy. He dropped into non-league back in 2021. He first played for Tamworth and is now at Stourbridge.
