Tony Mowbray has the perfect opportunity to rotate and assess his squad as Birmingham City play host to Hull City in the FA Cup third round replay on Tuesday night.
Jordan James secured a last-gasp 2-2 draw for Blues on Mowbray's managerial debut against Swansea City on Saturday, but the new manager will be keen to go one step further this midweek.
Birmingham have already had a great chance to progress to the FA Cup fourth round as they went 1-0 up away at Hull on January 6, as Lukas Jutkiewicz netted in the 18th minute. Matty Jacob equalised three minutes from time, however, securing a replay for the Tigers.
It's an extra game in the schedule Blues would prefer to have avoided but it does allow Mowbray to experiment a little. We think he will do just that, heavily rotating in his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation. With that in mind, here's our predicted Blues XI.
1. GK: Neil Etheridge
Etheridge will likely start so Mowbray can get a look at his second goalkeeping option in a game situation.
2. RB: Cody Drameh
Drameh’s spot is pretty secured, even in the cup, as Blues don’t have any other natural right-backs fit.
3. CB: Dion Sanderson
The skipper is bound to start every game as long as he’s fit, no matter the competition.
4. CB: Emanuel Aiwu
The Austrian has struggled since signing in the summer but there’s a fresh slate now. Time to impress.
