January is a month that can make or break a team’s season in the Championship and one club facing a particularly potent month is Birmingham City. The Blues are currently without a manager after the board made the decision to sack Wayne Rooney after just 83 days in the St Andrews’ dugout.
The ex-Derby County and DC United boss was only able to win two of his 15 games in charge of Birmingham in a spell which drew many parallels to Gianfranco Zola’s ill-fated half season back in 2016/17. Rooney’s dismissal came seven games sooner than the Italian’s and the Blues board are now looking for a third permanent manager after John Eustace’s dismissal earlier in the season.
The new manager will inherit a team 20th in the Championship table, but where would Birmingham rank if the Championship table was based solely on results during Rooney’s tenure in the dugout.
