Birmingham City player ratings v Sheffield Wednesday as one scores 4 and several 5s

Tony Mowbray's men started out on top but ended up comfortably beaten by Sheffield Wednesday

Birmingham City are seriously starting to look over their shoulder after slumping to a dismal 2-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.

What appeared a must-win game before kick-off soon turned into a nightmare as the Owls snatched an unlikely victory. The Blues dominated possession early on, with Siriki Dembele looking dangerous, but they failed to make the pressure count.

Wednesday bagged against the run of play through Ike Ugbo and, in truth, that knocked the wind out of the visitors. The Canadian international bagged a second after half-time to knock the stuffing out of Birmingham and condemned them to a third consecutive defeat.

Three points for Wednesday also moved them to within five points of safety. With other clubs yet to play, the Blues could be one point clear of the drop zone before the weekend is over.

There were a few bright positive notes to report on at Hillsborough despite the defeat as Dembele and Jordan James impressed. However, one Birmingham player had a stinker and was arguably at fault for both Wednesday goals.

Another loss means the Blues have won just one in their previous nine Championship fixtures - the 2-1 win at Stoke City last month. Here is a round-up of your Blues player ratings following an uninspiring display in South Yorkshire.
