Birmingham City have announced their pending takeover from Tom Wagner and Shelby Companies Limited is now just one step away from completion.

It was unveiled on May 8, the final day of the 2022-23 Championship season, that Blues would be taken over subject to checks form the EFL and Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

Now, nearly a month on, a promising club statement reads: “The English Football League has today approved the acquisition of 45% in the Club by Shelby Companies Limited and is now awaiting approval in accordance with the rules of Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

“This exciting announcement comes after the exchange of two signed Sale and Purchase Agreements (SPA) on Sunday, 7 May. Shelby Companies Limited is managed by American financier, Tom Wagner, who was in attendance at Blues’ game against Sheffield United.”

The update means Birmingham fans can finally relax somewhat with just one step to go until Wagner and co can get going at transforming the football club.

It will be a lengthy process, so patience will be needed, but Blues should go in the right direction following the sale of major shares.
