Birmingham City striker Lyndon Dykes has hinted he could return from injury sooner rather than later.
The Scotland international has been sidelined since February with a nasty calf issue sustained during the 0-0 draw away at Reading. It was an expensive afternoon for Blues as winger Scott Wright was also injured that day, ruled out for the rest of the season with a serious knee problem.

I would call it a medium-term injury,” Davies told Birmingham Live back in February.
”It’s not a quick turnaround but there’s definitely a route back for him to get back before the end of this season and contribute. We’ll miss him. I don’t know whether the cup final might come too soon. I’m not qualified to give that definitive answer but it sounds like the cup final might come too soon.”
The final Davies refers to is of course in the Vertu Trophy, hosted at Wembley Stadium this coming Sunday (April 13). Dykes’ recovery timeline was predicted some time ago but Davies appears to be right; the trip to Wembley comes too soon but there could be an involvement before the end of the League One campaign.
That’s what’s been suggested by a recent post from Dykes to his Instagram story, anyway, as the Scotsman published an image today (April 8) of his crutches and protective boot strewn on the floor with a hands in the air emoji.

Albeit not confirmation that he’s totally fine just yet, the Instagram post is certainly a good sign that his recovery is going to plan. It’ll be a great shame for Dykes to miss the Wembley showdown with Peterborough United but the main thing is he now has a chance of playing his part before the end of the campaign.
By the time Dykes is back, the League One title will almost certainly be secured so he can work his way back to sharpness with very little pressure. The 29-year-old, signed for £1 million from Queens Park Rangers last summer, has only scored one league goal for Birmingham so far.
Goals have flowed in other competitions, though, with four netted in seven games across the Vertu Trophy and FA Cup. Rather crucially, Dykes scored the 88th-minute winning header to progress past Bradford City in the Vertu Trophy semi-finals.
There’s an opportunity for Dykes to help make history upon his return as Blues, currently on 92 points from 39 matches, have the League One record of 103 points firmly in their sights. The EFL record, standing at 106 points, could be eclipsed too. It’s been a truly mesmerising season for Blues.
In other news, Birmingham already have four transfers in the pipeline ahead of the summer window as Davies seeks to add further quality for the return to the Championship.
