'We’re looking' - Birmingham City transfer update shared by Chris Davies

Birmingham City are aiming to bring in some new faces in the January transfer window

Birmingham City drew 1-1 at home to Charlton Athletic on Saturday afternoon. They took the lead in the first half against the Addicks through defender Christoph Klarer. However, the visitors equalised after the interval courtesy of Tyreece Campbell.

The Blues are positioned in 12th place in the Championship table after 21 fixtures. They are five points off the play-offs. Chris Davies’ side are back in action next weekend with an away trip to Bramall Lane to face Sheffield United.

Birmingham City transfer update shared ahead of January window

Birmingham boss Davies has said they are looking to bolster their squad in the January transfer window. They have the chance to freshen up their ranks with some new faces. The Midlands outfit also have the opportunity to let some players head out the exit door as well if needed.

Davies has shared this recruitment update, as per a report by BirminghamLive: “We’re looking at a few key positions going into January. We want to come out of that window stronger. This new Birmingham, as such, has had a look at the Championship now and seen where we sit in relation to the other teams and without giving too much away, I think there’s some key positions we need to look at and are looking at. There are a lot of conversations going on around how we can get better and come out stronger within that window.”

He added: “A lot will depend on (Eiran) Cashin, he hasn’t played as much and we want to be fair to the players, especially if they are loan players and they are not getting the game time. But as I’ve said to him, let’s see. He came on and contributed the other night (QPR) and it doesn’t take long to get back in the team again so we’ll see where we are come January.”

What transfer business could Birmingham City do in January?

Birmingham will need to bring in a defender if Eiran Cashin went back to Brighton and Hove Albion. He has struggled for game time and most signs point towards him heading back to the AMEX Stadium this winter. The centre-back has struggled to get into the starting XI amid competition from the likes of Klarer, Phil Neumann and Jack Robinson.

The Blues could do with some more quality at the top end of the pitch. Kyogo Furuhashi hasn’t been able to make the impact that he would have wanted to when he first made the switch to England from Rennes in the summer. The ex-Celtic man needs to find his shooting boots over the festive period.

Bringing in a number 10 type player should also be high up on Davies’ list of priorities. Birmingham have been well backed over the past couple of windows and there is no reason why their ambitious owners won’t do the same again next month. The team remains in a strong position in the league, despite some inconsistent form, and they are within touching distance of the top six.
