A new player could be set for the Birmingham City treatment table before Saturday’s League One clash with Wigan Athletic.

Keshi Anderson became Birmingham’s latest injury concern when he was substituted in pain during the 2-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Fulham on Tuesday night.

The attacking midfielder, holding his back after a collision, was replaced by Tyler Roberts just after the hour mark. Although on the losing team on the night, Anderson put in a decent performance as he regularly beat defenders and saw a glancing header cleared off the line.

It was a shame to see the former Blackpool man head off but it was a necessary decision, especially given his injury record throughout the years. Davies has since confirmed there’s concern over a back issue, though there’s little information to go off initially.

“I’ve not had an update from the physio but he pulled up with something just before he was going to come off,” Davies admitted during the post-match press conference.

“He’s started the season brightly, he’s disciplined in what he does. He works hard defensively and has good movements offensively. He has quality and hopefully he can continue,” the head coach said.

If Anderson does end up spending some time on the sidelines, Blues certainly aren’t short of options to fill the void. Koji Miyoshi has been banging on the door to get back in the starting lineup, while the likes of Emil Hansson, Ayumu Yokoyama and Luke Harris are all set to be rotated over the coming weeks.

Birmingham must brush off their cup disappointment quickly and look ahead to this Saturday as the play host to Wigan Athletic in League One.
