All aboard the promotion bus, Blues fans...

Birmingham City have been given a huge fitness boost for the second-half of the season with Tahith Chong, Taylor Richards and Troy Deeney all given the green light to return soon.

Chong is the one that has got Blues fans buzzing after he was pictured back on the grass with his parent club Manchester United this week but his return to the west midlands is coming even sooner than expected.

The 22-year-old has been out since October with a groin injury and there was, at some stage, fear that his time in Birmingham was done for the season.

However, following his return to light training with United on Tuesday, Bowyer has revealed that he will link up back with the Blues at Wast Hills as soon as next week!

“Manchester United are obviously doing his program and that’s going really well so from what I understand, he will be back with us next Monday (February 7),” explained the manager.

“He’ll be with us next Monday, then he has to train with us for two weeks, he has to train, nothing else and then we’ll re-evaluate it then.

“After those two weeks of training with the first team then maybe we can start getting some minutes into him but obviously we’re ahead of schedule so yeah, we’ve just got to do things the right way.”

Bowyer also gave an update on the now club captain Troy Deeney, adding that he will also be returning to the team along with Chong on Monday.

Taylor Richards, who has yet to play any minutes for Blues due to injury and more recently coronavirus, is finally edging closer too though no date was specified for the Brighton midfielder.

“Taylor has just come back from covid, today (Wednesday),” Bowyer said.

“I’ve seen him jogging outside on the grass. I don’t know how far away he is but today is the actual first day I’ve seen him on the grass.”
