Birmingham City manager Lee Bowyer has identified Reading Under-23s defender Terell Thomas as a potential summer transfer target as they look to fill a void in their injury prone defence.

That’s according to TeamTalk who claim the former AFC Wimbledon and Crewe Alexandra centre-back is ‘attracting the interest’ of both Blues and a number of top end League One clubs.

Thomas was picked up by Reading on a short-term deal that runs through to the end of this season after his contract was terminated by mutual consent at League One side, Crewe.

He has yet to feature for the Royals’ first-team since his arrival but has been impressing with his performances in the Under-23s.

Now 26, you can imagine he’s a signing that would come relatively cheap in terms of weekly wages as the player looks to prove himself once more.

After starting his career at Arsenal’s youth academy, Thomas later went on to join Charlton Athletic before moving to Wigan Athletic in 2017.

He then spent three years at AFC Wimbledon where he became a firm fan favourite and left at the expiry of his contract in 2021 following interest from Championship clubs.

A move sadly for Thomas never transpired and he instead linked up with League One struggler’s Crewe. His last showing for The Alex came in November 2021.

The 6’3 centre-back has made 181 professional appearances in his career though has never played as high as the Championship.
