Birmingham City confirm first summer signings as Lee Bowyer returns to training

Six young scholars have penned their first professional contracts with the Blues.

Birmingham City have announced their first signings of the summer on the day Lee Bowyer returned to Wast Hills training ground.

Youngsters Alfie Brooks, Rico Browne, Tommy Fogarty, Rico Patterson, Callum Sullivan and Kieran Wakefield have all signed their first professional contracts, deciding to continue their football journey with Blues.

Whilst they aren’t the kind of signings fans will have hoped for this summer, it does at least show that there is some work going on in the background.

With the current state of the first-team squad, any of those six players could end up playing a big part next season - a lot earlier than intended.

Elsewhere and Bowyer finally returned to the training ground on Monday after a week of being nowhere to be seen.

The official club Twitter page posted a video of the Blues squad putting in the hard-yards with manager Bowyer watching over them.

He had a smile on his face and looked to be genuinely enjoying being back which is good to see following all the constant talk surrounding his future.

Birmingham are now on the home-stretch to their first pre-season game which takes place two weeks today (July 12) against Portimonense in Portugal.
