Birmingham City: BSHL release statement on club ownership

BSHL has released a statement on its ownership of the club

Birmingham City’s owners have released a statement on the ownership of the club.

The statement was released to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, with the current owners Birmingham Sports Holdings (BSHL) - confirming that 21.64% of the club has been sold by shareholder Vong Pech.

The statement, which was released following the reports in the media of the takeover, read: “The Company has been informed by Mr. Vong Pech (“Mr. Vong”), a substantial shareholder of the Company holding approximately 23.53% of the issued share capital of the Company as at the date of this announcement, that by an agreement dated 12 June 2022, he has agreed to dispose of approximately 21.64% of the issued share capital of Birmingham City PLC (“BCP”) beneficially owned by him.

“BCP is a public limited liability company incorporated in England and Wales and is owned as to approximately 75% by the Company, approximately 21.64% by Oriental Rainbow Investments Limited (a company incorporated in the British Virgin Islands, the entire issued share capital of which is beneficially and wholly-owned by Mr. Vong) and approximately 3.36% by public shareholders.

“The wholly-owned subsidiaries of BCP are principally engaged in the operation and management of Birmingham City Football Club PLC (the “Club”) and Birmingham City Women Football Club Limited in the United Kingdom.

“As at the date of this announcement, the Company has not entered into nor exchanged any agreement to dispose of its approximately 75% interest in BCP, and BCP and the Club remain subsidiaries of the Company.”

The statement comes with British businessman Laurence Bassini reportedly close to completing a takeover of the club.

According to The Telegraph, Bassini is hoping to complete the £35 million takeover of Blues later this week, but as the BSHL staement confirms, the club has not entered any agreement to dispose of its approximately 75% stake in the club.
