Young Boys v Aston Villa academy full time score and goal scorers

Aston Villa's UEFA Youth League campaign with a defeat to Young Boys at the Sportpark Wyler.

Rory Wilson put the Villains in front in the 21st minute, but Felix Emanuel Tsimba equalised, and then in the second period, Elio Rufener scored with there being no response from the visitors.

Villa took the lead through Wilson who scored with a tap-in after Ben Broggio's effort was saved. A few minutes after the goal, Kyrie Pierre had to make way for Ewan Simpson in a substitution during the first-half.

Young Boys got back on level terms as despite Sam Proctor's efforts, Tsimba's shot proved too powerful for him. Before half-time, Proctor did well to prevent Tsimba doubling his tally, as the goalkeeper saved his shot.

As the two sides emerged from the dressing rooms, Uebersax was forced in to a save from Travis Patterson early in the second-half. George Hemmings also had an opportunity just before the hour mark.

The hosts took the lead through Elio Rufener with Rhodri Smith providing him with the assist after working the ball down the left-hand flank.

The game finished with eight attempts on goal each with three on target for each side. This was the first match of the revamped UEFA Youth League, which has also seen a change in format. The under-19s fixtures will mirror the first team, and so Villa will have home matches against Bayern Munich, Bologna, and Juventus whilst they will also travel to Club Brugge, and Leipzig.
