Wolves vs Aston Villa: Paul Merson predicts winner and gives key reason

Aston Villa travel to Molineux looking for revenge for the reverse fixture which saw Wolves turn around a 2-0 deficit in the final 10 minutes back in October to win 3-2

Former Aston Villa midfielder Paul Merson has predicted the winner of this weekend’s West Midlands derby between his former club and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Steven Gerrard’s Villa side will make the short trip to Molineux tomorrow 2 (April) to take on Bruno Lage’s men with much still to play for this season.

Wolves are still chasing European football and will be looking to bounce back from their last minute 3-2 home defeat to Leeds before the international break.

Villa will also be looking to finish the season strongly and secure a top 10 finish after some impressive results in recent months.

Aston Villa captain Paul Merson celebrates after opening the scoring. It was Villa's first goal in 386 minutes of Premiership football since George Boateng scored in the 2-1 win at Elland Road the previous month.

Merson’s prediction

In his prediction column for Sportskeeda, Merson has gone for a 2-1 win for Villa.

He wrote: “Aston Villa have turned a corner - the result against Arsenal was a wake-up call for them.

“Ollie Watkins will be on a bit of a high after scoring for England, so I think Villa could win this one.

“As for Wolves, with Raul Jimenez suspended, I think they’ll struggle in front of goal.”

When and where is the match?
