The latest craze in the world of technology is the artificial intelligence application ChatGPT, so we thought we would give it a go with an Aston Villa spin.
In case you haven’t yet jumped on the bandwagon yourself, ChatGPT is a new chatbot developed by OpenAI to follow instructions in prompts and provide a detailed response.
Users can ask ChatGPT near-enough anything they like and the system will more often than not give a surprisingly well-informed answer.
With that in mind, we quizzed the software to find out its level of knowledge about The Villans and it did rather well, to be fair to it.
Having asked it to provide its best Villa XI of all-time, ChatGPT had a decent go with some superb explanations for its choices.
Although it did miss out on four huge names in Stan Lynn, Charlie Aitken, Dennis Mortimer and Tony Morley, many would argue the rest were worthy of being in there.
So, without further ado, here is the all-time Lions starting XI that ChatGPT provided us – with some nostalgic pictures, as well as the application’s explanations.
1. Nigel Spink
ChatGPT explanation: Spink played over 400 games for Aston Villa and was a key member of the team that won the European Cup in 1982. He made several important saves in the final against Bayern Munich, including a penalty from Klaus Augenthaler, and was named man of the match.
2. Eric Houghton (far right)
ChatGPT explanation: Houghton played for Aston Villa in the 1920s and 1930s, and was part of the team that won the FA Cup in 1920 and the First Division title in 1931. He was a versatile player who could play in several positions, but was primarily a right-back.
3. Paul McGrath
ChatGPT explanation: McGrath is widely regarded as one of the greatest defenders in Aston Villa's history. He played for the club from 1989 to 1996 and was named PFA Player of the Year in 1993. He was a rock-solid defender who could read the game well and make important tackles and interceptions.
4. Ron Saunders
ChatGPT explanation: Saunders managed Aston Villa to the league title in 1981 and the European Cup in 1982, but before that he was a player for the club. He played over 100 games for Villa in the late 1950s and early 1960s and was known for his tough tackling and leadership.
